Beautiful country. Really nice place. Great food and lovely people. We were chased to have service offered a few times. They really make sure you are well taken care of..... unless you find a rare place that doesn't like gaijin. Still a few around I've heard, but that goes for anywhere. Glad everyone I know is okay as can be considering.
Been busy as well. Now with the flooding here been helping get stuff to people that lost everything. Busy moving as well. Sheesh.

Glad they are ok and that you havent floated away either.
Earthquakes in Japan are really scary---you never know if its a big one, or just little aftershocks....I was in Nagoya during the big one that hit the Nagano area in 04? (cant remember exactly)....I remember the aftershocks we had and trying to find a table to hide under, only to find the coffee table and kotastu I wouldnt fit under ...had to stand in a doorway.
I was in southern Kyushu twice (both times at christmas)...really enjoyed it and was a nice place to have christmas; took quite a few trips to Fukoaka...and Shiminoseki (it being the end of the shinkansen as well as there being a really nice stuffed toy animal store ....You&&&Me--alas they now sell on yahoo auctions so no need to visit, and good thing as I have no plans to make another long plane ride).
Do you speak/read any japanese????
|
Haha talk about what? They are not really close family for us, but my uncle. They are missionaries that have been there since...... just after WW2. They have been there since and have grown their families there.
We got to experience a few earthquakes when we visited but nothing major. A 5.5 when in Tokyo and the building was swaying. We were just like "oh, an earthquake" haha It has been tough in Kumamoto because some of the aftershocks have been major and a bigger earthquake later so each time they were thinking as you said.... "is this a big one or aftershock?" for days. They were having like 100+ shocks per day. Living in their cars, many not leaving for fear of a big one. :/ Scary stuff.
Yeah we are okay but so many around are not okay. Tons and tons of house and families got washed out but the community is really rallying together to help. Loads of stories of people helping each other.
I can read a little and speak a little, but want to learn more. My sister taught herself and is quite fluent IMO.

Good on you for helping out. It is times of disasters that communities either pull together or fall apart. Glad you guys are all pulling together!

We did okay (had minor issues) and tons around lost everything. A local friend said she was gonna start a collection drive so I jumped in and they ended up with almost 3 huge truck loads of clothes, food, cleaning supplies and more. Loads of good people getting out and helping. Haven't heard a single story about looting. One local apartment that got it really bad I heard looks like a block party. A ton of people showed up to help them and they also brought grills and food to cook for the people. Very cool to see.

Tons of people have hated on Texas for saying they are all kinds of things yet this is what is happening. So.... take that haters :P

It is very awesome to see when communities pull together. I saw a similar thing when a tornado went through my hometown a couple of years ago. Everyone pitching in where they can. Such a better story than hearing about all the looting that takes place in other cities after disasters.

Well I was wrong, a few stories about looting coming out. Really sad when someone does this in the middle of tragedies. Always a few dummies. :/

It always blows my mind how there are people that are the self-centered. They have to benefit from other peoples pains. I hope they are caught and Texas does what they want with them... Scum of the Earth right there...

there are always people who think only of themselves no matter the situation--sorry that some of them are in texas right now (these are also the same people who think that rules and laws are for other people not them......wont even mention the scum that prey on the elderly and lower IQ people ).
been really nice here the last bunch of days--a bit cool this week, but with no need for the a/c and being able to have the balcony door open the whole day, I am not complaining (and great sleeping weather!)

Thankfully the majority is people helping each other. Tons of that happening.
Glad to hear it is nice there cosy! Weather has been beautiful here again, but supposedly more storms on the way. Tornado warnings and 80mph winds and large hail expected in Dallas tonight Hopefully it just fizzles out. We don't need that right now. :/

I see a lot of kids these days who seem to think rules don't apply to them. Stop talking? He was clearly talking to someone else, not to me. Uh, no, I was pretty much speaking directly to you. It all trickles down from parents, or at least most of it... Hopefully they mature before they get into the real work force...
Been raining here the past two days. We need it but it doesn't make for nice weather. And much cooler out now as well... I want the 70's back...

they dont...how do you think the parents got that way? been that way for sometime. The work force is the same way---rules are for someone else, they are not for me; I am always first even when there is a line of people who have been waiting--that's their problem I am entitled to always be the most important. And this is taught in schools now as well.
We are in the ME generation (forget x), 70's? I want the 60's back minus the way they treated women back then (which hasnt changed all that much, but it has a tiny bit). Back in the day when people went to work to WORK and didnt assume they would get paid just for their mere presence at the work place. Back when people cared about the work they did, back when if you bought something it lasted (not broke before the warranty was over so that you would be forced to buy another one so that someone would continue to have a job....)
sorry, soap box
yeah rain here as well, which is fine as I planted some new herbs and they needed the watering (had been watering them everyday so it will be nice for them to get it naturally).

Agreed on all that. I remember working at Sams Club for a bit and I was a cashier. They often had us do other random jobs, sometimes even clean the restroom. One guy quit saying "I'm not a janitor". It's sad the attitudes these days. And yes the good ole days of MADE IN THE USA and it lasted forever. Now it's all Made in China and you toss it in a few days. Bleh.
Oh yeah, that storm did come through. One of the worst in terms of wind and such that has passed through here. Ever. Was crazy intense for like a hour. Two trees at our place snapped. Weather channel said there was funnel clouds in the area, pretty sure one went over near us. Thankfully the trees landed in some of the best possible places but big messes everywhere. Power was out for a long time. Crazy. Other good part is that it moved fast and didn't sit and leave too much rain. Really fast moving storm.

been some crazy weather this year---over the weekend it was in the upper 70's...by the end of monday it was only in the 40's! (and hasnt gotten past 50 this week)....and loads of wind here, some rain (yeh! dont have to water the herbs!)....and heard some tornados hit places in Illinois and Indiana....glad they all missed us.
I always worry about the trees behind us--- is a very nice natural area (no idea what else to call it) owned by the nuns...its part of the old folks campus...tons of trees and many of them reach as far as our roof (hence the raccoons, squirrels and other life forms getting onto our 3rd story balcony)...I worry about if they get hit/fall/etc what kind of damage they would do (not to mention the old oak tree who loves to drop acorns all over our car in the front of our condo ...its an old tree.....). Love the trees, just hope they always stay standing --ALL of their parts.

Yeah. It takes quite a bit to snap a healthy tree. These have been through a ton of storms. That was just really bad. When we did tree work usually they uprooted not snapped. I'm not used to that work anymore, I'm tired. lol

We haven't had many storms, but we have got a fair amount of rain as of late. Raining again today. Already missing the sunny 70 degree weather we had last week... Sigh... Oh well.
Not a whole lot of big trees to worry about here, which is good. But that also means the trees that are here are small and do get whipped around by the wind. A lot.

Yes, Stuey, we are all getting older, things dont work as well as they used to for all of us, sorry to say
AND>>>>
Its May 1/3 of the year has already gone by, cant quite believe it (yet again...time just seems to move so fast now).

It does cause the upper floors to warm up quite a bit and quickly, but it makes for lovely open window conditions... Now we have more rain here. Lots and lots.
It is insane that it is already May... It just flew by!

Yup Mother's Day tomorrow. Already sent a card and I'll send a text tomorrow as well. Then we will see her next weekend. Celebrating with the wife's family tomorrow.
